LVNV

Las Vegas is all about excess. In fact, one off the big nightclubs in our hotel is called XS. Maybe they ripped the name off of INXS, who knows? In that spirit we used our breakfast credit to go to the Buffet this morning. Now, you may think that $20 is a lot for coffee, cereal and some fruit (what I had), but they have an enormous selection of tasty food. Pretty much anything you want, from quasi-healthy (homemade granola and yogurt) to just more than I want for breakfast (a ham carving station or pepperoni pizza, anyone?)

Breakfast, anyone?, June, 2012

And did I mention the pastries and ice cream? I confess - I had a couple of cookies.

I need to give credit where credit is due. The Wynn, where we are staying, spares no effort to have absolutely top-notch service. There are staff every 10', all smiling and offering to help. The fitness center is huge, although not as large as the Buffet. The attendants run around continually straightening up the weight and aerobic gear, including a new one for me: making sure the logos on the dumbbells are all aligned properly. Everyone we have dealt with is unfailingly polite and pleasant. Including the security guys, who are all over. This is probably the safest place in the world. We've been to a lot of great places in the world, but the service here is right at the top of the list.

(Footnote: I need to temper this last paragraph, as the wife just spent a confusing and frustrating hour "discussing" the various credits and amenities we were entitled to. Between the overlapping programs we have, at least one of them changing since we booked, and general confusion by some of the front desk staff, it took way too long to get straightened out. But it seems okay now.)

And opulence? It really doesn't get any more opulent than this. Some might even say it's over the top.

Living in luxury, June 2012

We topped the day off with dinner at Rao (excellent) and Le Reve, one of the 945 Cirque du Soleil-like shows in Vegas. Truly extraordinary. Almost 100 performers in 1,000,000 gallons of water, doing amazing dance/acrobatics/gymnastics which they make to look as effortless as they are artful.
